Matthew Mondello
Matthew is a Staff Assistant in Senator Burr’s office assisting in the overall administrative operation of the office which includes answering calls from constituents and making sure their requests are heard or referred to proper in-state resources. He also runs flag requests, Gold Scouts, and Eagle Scouts programs that recognize and honor NC students who demonstrate commendable service to their community and state.

Since graduating I have been working on Democratic campaign causes, first on a US Senate campaign in Kentucky during the 2020 primaries and then a PAC during the general. I am currently the Political Director of the Cape May County Regular Democratic Organization and I am the Finance Director for the Mazzeo Armato and Fitzpatrick for District 2 campaign in South Jersey.
Samantha Strelzer
Samantha was awarded the Richter Scholarship and Grant in 2019 where she probed the relationship between policy and care through independent undergraduate research to research the effects of Spain’s policy on its health outcomes. Upon returning, she turned this research into a policy paper for Dr. Will Walldorf as part of summer internship credit. Now, she is proud to share that this research has just been published in the Columbia University Journal for Global Health. Since graduation at Wake, I attended graduate school at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, obtaining a Master’s degree in Public Policy & Administration. Since graduating in May of 2022 from UTK, I have been a Project Administrator at the Southeast Tennessee Development District in Chattanooga.

Jacqueline Collie
After graduation I worked for Congressman George Holding (NC-02), then in 2020 I started working at the Office of Science & Technology Policy at the White House. This past April, I began another new position back on the Hill as a Legislative Assistant for Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01). I handle healthcare policy, immigration reform, intelligence, telecom and internet, and judiciary issues. I have also just begun part-time law school at American University.
Nicolette DeLorenzo
After graduation I worked for two years as an Economic Consultant at Edgeworth Economics in Washington, DC where I analyzed data for labor and employment litigation. I was promoted to Senior Economic Consultant in October 2020. This fall, I began law school at George Washington University and will graduate in Spring 2024.
Daniella Feijoo
I served as the Campus Life Fellow at Wake Forest University during 2019-2020. In this role, I worked in the Office of Wellbeing creating and implementing programs for students, faculty, and staff centered on the 8 dimensions of wellbeing: social, emotional, intellectual, occupational, financial, spiritual, environmental, and physical. I also coordinated the Campus Life Advisory Committee and the Campus Life Program Staff Committee, advising and mentoring student leaders and leading campus life collaborative efforts such as Deliberative Dialogues and nutrition education programs. Currently, I am pursuing a master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs at Indiana University Bloomington and will graduate in May 2022. I serve as Graduate Advisor for Community Engagement, work with the Indiana University School of Medicine’s Civic and Community Engagement Program, and work in the Walter Center for Career Achievement at IUB. I am also pursuing a philanthropic studies graduate certificate from the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IUPUI.
Drew Finley
Upon graduation from Wake Forest in 2019, I worked full-time for the City of Hendersonville, NC in the Water & Sewer and Engineering departments. I served as a Fellow in the inaugural cohort of the Lead for North Carolina program. Lead for North Carolina is a two-year fellowship program headquartered at the UNC School of Government that places recent college graduates in full-time, paid positions in local governments across North Carolina. Following the completion of my fellowship, I was promoted to the position of Assistant to the Utilities Director with the City of Hendersonville. I currently serve in this role on a part-time basis while I am pursuing my Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree at Appalachian State University with a concentration in Town, City, and County Management. At the Appalachian State Local Government Alumni Association Conference last week, I was awarded the North Carolina City and County Management Association Scholarship, which is a $3000 grant for a current MPA student pursuing a career in local government management. I am excited to continue serving communities at the local level and am grateful for the tremendous educational foundation that my undergraduate degree provided me!

Austin Melville
From June 2019-March 2020 I served as a legislative fellow on both the House Foreign Affairs Committee Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Civilian Security and Trade, as well as in Congressman Albio Sires office. From May 2020-June 2021 I worked as a Staff Assistant for the Bockorny Group, a bipartisan government affairs firm in Washington DC that covers a broad client base ranging from Fortune 100 companies to new start-ups. Policy areas ranged from education, health care, agriculture, and trade. In August 2021 I started law school at Seton Hall University School of Law.

Professionally, from January or 2020 through December of 2020, I was the call time manager with Betsy Sweet for US Senate and then finance assistant with Tom O’Halleran for Congress. Now I am the Development Assistant at 314 Action, an organization that helps elect scientists.
Liz Strand
I work for Deloitte’s Government & Public Services consulting practice in the Washington D.C./Northern VA area. My client experience includes: supporting the US Department of Agriculture stand up a grants and loans program for rural broadband and internet connectivity across the country, working for the New York State Department of Labor to support the surge in unemployment claims during COVID-19 (implementing the CARES act policies, training call center agents to process claims, tracking public data such as social media to gauge claimant’s concerns), and helping the State of California implement a statewide welfare technology system. My current client is the Bureau of Prisons, developing strategies for improving staffing, employee wellbeing, and driving positive culture change. I also work for the Wake Forest recruiting team and onboard new Rosslyn analysts to the firm within the government practice.
Nicholas Syris
After graduating from Wake Forest, I moved to Austin, TX to work in technology sales for Oracle. I held multiple roles within Sales for Oracle such as Business Development Representative and Account Executive. I then left Oracle in May 2021 to work for a smaller cloud technology managed services provider called RapidScale where I currently work. I am a channel sales manager at RapidScale where I work with our partners to sell a variety of cloud technology solutions to businesses all across the country. RapidScale is a wholly-owned subsidiary of COX Enterprises, a $21 Billion private company based in Atlanta, Georgia. I am continuing to follow my passion for both sales and technology. I still have a strong passion for Politics and Government as well, even if I am not professionally involved in Politics. I’m grateful for the skills I developed at Wake Forest, specifically in my Politics and International Affairs classes which have all been instrumental to my success today.
Tiffany Virgin Perry
Tiffany is an Officer at the United Nations Foundation supporting strategic initiatives around the UN Sustainable Development Goals, as well as operational efficiency. Prior to this role, Tiffany worked for several firms implementing USAID projects throughout Latin America and West Africa. She has supported various angles of international development implementation, from the grantor, grantee, and contractor perspectives. She received her MA in Latin American Development from Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service and her BA in Politics and International Affairs from Wake Forest.

Mark Hoover
Mark is the Counterterrorism Strategy Advisor with the Man-Portable Air Defense Systems (MANPADS) Task Force in the Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement at the U.S. Department of State. Hoover leads the interagency task force effort to ascertain and mitigate risks to USG interests posed by MANPADS and affiliated systems if under the control of terrorist non-state armed actors.
Between December 2015 and July 2021, Hoover served as a Stabilization Advisor at the Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations (CSO where he served domestically and at Embassies in Uganda, Central African Republic, Cameroon, Chad, and the Holy See. In that role, Hoover led U.S. Embassies in Uganda and Cameroon in their analysis, diplomatic engagement, and observation of elections. Hoover provided management and technical support for almost $5 million in countering violent extremism programming between 2020-2021. During his time with CSO, Hoover developed several new positions based overseas and in Washington as well as pioneered the USG’s first peacebuilding initiative directed towards building grassroots capacity to support a peace process in Cameroon related to the conflict within the Anglophone region. Hoover drafted multiple interagency strategies, addressing electoral violence in two countries, and stabilization concerns in a third, and led efforts to update the U.S. Strategy for Countering Boko Haram.
Hoover is a former Presidential Management Fellow (PMF), a former Robertson Fellow for Government, and Rosenthal Fellow in International Relations. As a PMF, Hoover spent four months detailed to the Department of Treasury’s Office of Terrorism Financing and Financial Crimes. Hoover completed his bachelor’s degree at Wake Forest University and completed his Masters at the Fletcher School at Tufts University. Before working for the Department of State, Hoover worked as an auditor at the Government Accountability Office, worked for Wake Forest University’s Office of Admissions, and spent one year teaching English as a Fulbright Fellow to Andorra. Born and raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Kenya, Hoover is a fluent French speaker. He has also studied, to varying levels, Spanish, Catalan, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic, and Kiswahili.
Dr. Stan Meiburg
Dr. Meiburg became the Director of Graduate Studies in Sustainability at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, following a 39-year career with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. From 2014 to 2017, Dr. Meiburg served as EPA’s Acting Deputy Administrator, the agency’s second-highest position.
Before becoming Deputy Administrator, Dr. Meiburg served in senior career positions as EPA’s Deputy Regional Administrator in the Southeast and South Central regions of the United States, as well as in EPA offices in Research Triangle Park and in Washington, DC. He received EPA’s Distinguished Career Service Award, EPA’s Gold Medal for his work on the Clean Air Act Amendments, the Commander’s Award for Public Service from the Department of the Army, and the Distinguished Federal Executive award, the highest civilian award for a Federal senior executive. He is currently chair of the North Carolina Environmental Management Commission, a member of the Roundtable on Science and Technology for Sustainability of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, and a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.
Dr. Meiburg holds a B.A. degree from Wake Forest University, and masters and doctoral degrees in political science from The Johns Hopkins University.
Dr. Jacob Montgomery
Dr. Montgomery is an associate professor in the Department of Political Science at Washington University in St. Louis and chair of the political science track for the newly formed Division of Computational and Data Sciences, and director of the Weidenbaum Center’s The American Social Survey (TASS).
His research is in the areas of political methodology and American politics, with a special interest in measurement, network analysis, Bayesian statistics, and computational methods. He is currently working on understanding the role of social media platforms in the political system including interventions to reduce belief in disinformation, the role of algorithms in targeting online political advertisements and applying machine learning techniques to the task of measuring political concepts.
He has published in many of the field’s leading journals—including the American Political Science Review, the American Journal of Political Science, the Journal of Politics, and Political Analysis—and his work has received support from the National Science Foundation. He earned a bachelor of arts from Wake Forest University in political science and mathematical economics. At Duke University, he earned a master of science in statistical science and his doctorate in political science.
