Politics Major Daniel Winter attends the West Point Student Conference on US Affairs

I had the pleasure of attending the 76th annual Student Conference on U.S. Affairs (SCUSA) at West Point from October 15th to October 18th. The conference was an excellent experience because of what I learned, but more importantly because of the people that I built lasting connections with. I worked with a mix of other college students and West Point cadets throughout my time at the conference to come up with an actionable policy proposal on how the United States should promote democracy abroad. I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with these students and cadets and hearing a wide range of opinions on U.S. foreign policy. The conference also brought in an outstanding set of experts to guide the conference and each individual roundtable. These experts provided great insight with their experience and practical tips on how to build actionable and feasible policies. A final perk of the conference was getting to see the fascinating history and culture of America’s top military institution at West Point. Overall, the conference was not only valuable, but also extremely enjoyable.
